Clean Transportation in Spotlight as Legislature Reconvened August 18

The California Legislature reconvened Monday, August 18 for the final four weeks of session before interim recess begins on September 12. Governor Newsom has until October 12 to sign or veto bills passed before the end of Session. Lawmakers returned to a packed agenda, including major issues such as Cap & Invest reauthorization (formerly Cap & Trade), refinery closures, energy affordability, wildfire liability, redistricting, grid regionalization, and E15 fuel adoption.

Next week, members of the Assembly Select Committee on Transportation Costs and Impact of the Low Carbon Fuel Standard will convene on Wednesday, August 27 for an informational hearing. The agenda will feature government officials (including CARB), academic experts, and industry stakeholders, followed by public testimony. Once released, the agenda will be available at the hearing page.

In collaboration with a broad, multi-fuel coalition of LCFS supporters, CRTA helped submit a letter to committee members this week expressing strong support for the LCFS program. The letter, signed by 114 organizations, highlights the environmental and economic benefits of the program and urges lawmakers to preserve its integrity. We anticipate the hearing will be an open and informative conversation about the program and the benefits Californians receive under the program.
